How It All Started

In 2008, when the financial crisis hit, corporate and government donations disappeared almost overnight.

The large, well-known charities could still attract funding. Local school groups, sports teams, food banks and community organizations were left competing for whatever remained.

At the time, we were operating a community newspaper and saw firsthand how badly these groups were being affected. They still had programs to run, families to help and expenses to meet—but fewer places to turn for support.

We already had the design, photography, marketing and sales experience needed to help. So instead of simply reporting on the problem, we began creating fundraising programs specifically for local organizations.

The goal was simple:

Build something people would genuinely want, eliminate the financial risk for the organization, and let the group keep every dollar it raised.
